6 Healthy Things To Do With Egg Yolks

Egg yolks are very healthy and can resolve most common nutrient deficiencies. They are the complete meal full of excellent protein, fats, vitamins, omega-3s and much more.

It’s been assumed by many throughout the years that eating eggs raise cholesterol levels and increase the risk of arteriosclerosis.

While egg yolks do contain cholesterol, various studies have found that unless you have a predisposition for high cholesterol levels, eating a yolk or two daily will not adversely affect you. So here are some great ideas that you can do with egg yolks.

1. Make a healthy mayonnaise

You thought that mayonnaise should be a complete no-no. But in this case, it’s very health friendly because it contains an egg yolk and olive oil, with some mustard, vinegar, and salt. The problem with most mayonnaise brands you buy from a store is that unhealthy oil bases are used in process of production. Here the olive oil replaces bad oils.

All you need is 3 egg yolks, 1 tbsp white wine vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp dry mustard and 1½ to 2 cups of olive oil. Beat the yolks and after 3 minutes add everything but oil. After mixing for a few minutes, add the oil but just a few drops then mix again and continue procedure until all oil is used.

2. Baked into an avocado

Once the pit is removed, the remaining hole in an avocado half is the perfect place to place an egg yolk. Add some crumbled tofu and fresh herbs and serve with some whole-grain toast for a simple, healthy, and filling meal.

3. Eat them raw

Growing up, many mothers would give to their children a raw egg yolk mixed in with a bit of sugar, just like many generations before. They knew that eggs were nourishing and they consumed raw egg yolk daily. If you are not a fan to swallow it raw in one piece, you can play with different ingredients and make something that you like.

4. Make a smoothie

One of the most popular ways to eat egg yolks is in a smoothie. It is the best to throw in egg yolks after you blend up the fruit and kefir and give it a few whirls. This is also the very good trick to easy ‘hide’ yolks. In that way even all kids love them! So yummy!

5. Ice cream

Ice cream always tastes better with egg yolks. It is richer, creamier and denser. Everybody loves ice cream so whenever you can, throw in some yolks and make it healthier! You can find many recipes with egg yolks. Of course, for those who can’t have eggs, just omit it! It will still be yummy and nourish with all that milk!

6. Add it in salad

Go light on the salad dressings but pack on the eggs. One egg contains 70 calories and 6 g of protein. Also, the yolk is the more nutritious part of the egg and loaded with essential muscle-building vitamins. Adding eggs to your salad can increase the absorption of carotenoids.

Eating a salad with a variety of colorful veggies provides several unique types of carotenoids, including zeaxanthin lycopene, beta-carotene, and lutein. The fat content in egg yolks triggers greater carotenoids absorption, reducing oxidative stress. When the oxidative stress is reduced, a faster is post-workout recovery rate.
