5 Vegetarian Steak Substitutes

Being a vegetarian doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a steak! Here are some great vegetarian steak recipes. These recipes are easy to make and so delicious, no one will know they are vegetarian!

1. Vegetarian Salisbury steak

Vegetarian Salisbury steak recipe is a vegetarian version of Salisbury steak. This recipe is made with beans, mushrooms, and oats.

Ingredients:

2 cups beans, cooked, drained, rinsed
1 cup oat flour
1 onion, diced
2 cups mushrooms, chopped
2 tbsp. soy sauce
2 garlic cloves
1 egg
Salt and pepper, top taste

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mash the beans. In a food processor, combine the parsley, onion, garlic and mushrooms. Transfer to the bowl with the beans. Add the remaining ingredients and combine well. Form the mixture into patties. Place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy.

2. Eggplant steak

Eggplants are good for using as a replacement for meat in burgers or sandwiches. This recipe is also gluten-free and vegan.

Ingredients:

1 eggplant, sliced into 1/2 inch rounds
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tsp. olive oil
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. Italian seasoning

Instructions:

Preheat the grill. In a bowl, combine the eggplant, olive oil, garlic and Italian seasoning. Grill on each side about 2minutes. Serve warm.

3. Mushroom steak sandwich

Mushrooms make a perfect substitute for meat. They are also packed a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D, C, and iron.

Ingredients:

5 portobello mushrooms, sliced
2 tsp. olive oil
1 onion, sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
1 tsp. oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 egg

Instructions:

In a food processor, mix all the ingredients. Form into patties. Preheat the grill. Grill for 10 minutes, flipping occasionally. Done!

4. Veggie steak with cheese

This veggie steak with cheese recipe is so delicious, you’ll definitely want to make it again.

Ingredients:

1 zucchini peeled, diced
1 cup mushrooms, diced
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup bread crumbs
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the zucchini and mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes. Set aside and let cool. Transfer to a large bowl. Mix with the remaining ingredients. Preheat the grill. Form the mixture into patties. Grill for 5 minutes each side. Top with cheese. Done.

5. Tofu steak

Everyone will love this tofu steak! Tofu is not only delicious but packed with protein and iron.

Ingredients:

1 package extra-firm tofu, drained
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. soy sauce
½ tsp. ginger
1/3 tsp. garlic powder
Cooking spray
Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Slice the tofu into pieces about 1/2 an inch thick.Place in a shallow dish. Add the olive oil, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic powder. Let stand 15 minutes.Remove from marinade.Preheat the grill and coat with cooking spray. Cook 3 minutes on each side. Done!
